The story isn’t as captivating as the first one, and I highly recommend you play the first one so you can care about your protagonist and care about the whole thing, most of all the religious intrigue – Deadfire is a great scenario but you may lack motivation to get to know it if you’re not invested in the story. Jumping into Deadfire was a logical next step. Pillars of Eternity is my favorite RPG of all time. In the Pillars of Eternity campaign you were able to choose various characters in which you could pledge your allegiance. However, if you did not complete the original or you’re new to the franchise, there are readily available histories that you are able to choose. This will import all of the choices you made into your Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire experience. You can import a save file from the original Pillars of Eternity, assuming you have completed the main story arc of the game.
